Aer Lingus Sees Annual Profits Double

The airline has announced a pre-tax profit of €84.4m for 2011, up €27.2m from the previous year. Aer Lingus claimed the rise in profits was down to effective cost-cutting. However the airline also warned that higher fuel prices and a growing pension deficit could harm the company’s long-term growth. In a statement the airline said: “Our expectation for 2012 is that the group will remain significantly profitable albeit below 2011 levels.”
