American Airlines Q2 net profit drops 88% to $71m despite 16% revenue growth

The airline reported Q2 operating profit of $446m, down from $1.13bn a year earlier, as revenue rose 16% to $16.7bn, while fuel costs surged 83%. CEO Robert Isom said demand remains strong and commercial execution should improve in the second half.
