John Lewis Sees Profits Hit By Capital Spending

The employee-owned retail chain has reported that its 64% increase in capital spending, to £253.8m, has dented its first-half profits. John Lewis, which also runs Waitrose, posted pre-tax profit of £91.2m for the six months to July 30th, down 18% on the previous year.
