Rakuten Bids US$315m For Kobo

The Japanese internet services group has put in a cash bid of US$315m to acquire e-reader manufacturer Kobo. Canada-based Kobo supply e-readers to Walmart, WH Smith and FNAC, amongst others, and are in direct competition with Amazon’s Kindle. Chief executive of Kobo, Mike Serbinis, will stay with the firm following completion of the deal.
