US department store JC Penney files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy

The 118-year-old retailer has become the latest retail mainstay to file for bankruptcy amid the pandemic. The company said late on Friday that it would have to close some of its 850 stores and make thousands of its 90,000 workforce redundant.
