Christo and Jeanne-Claude: The Floating Piers, Lake Iseo, Italy

The Floating Piers, first imagined in the 1970s, opened to the public on the 18th of June and will be accessible until the 3rd of July, 24 hours a day. The 81-year-old Bulgarian-born artist and his late wife, Jeanne-Claude, his collaborator for five decades, created a 3-kilometer-long walkway across the water of Lake Iseo. 100,000 square meters of shimmering yellow fabric, carried by a modular floating dock system of 220,000 high-density polyethylene cubes, undulate with the movement of the waves as The Floating Piers rise just above the surface of the water.
