The 2025 WiHTL & DiR Annual Report: Opportunities for all in hospitality, travel, leisure and retail

SHARE

The MBS Group is delighted to present in-depth research into diversity in the hospitality, travel, leisure and retail sectors, published as part of WiHTL & DiR’s annual report.

This analysis draws on data captured from the 200 biggest businesses in HTL and retail, plus in-depth conversations with Chairs, CEOs and HRDs about the steps being taken to move the dial.

We found that there’s real momentum to build an industry in which everyone is welcome. Although there have been some areas of progress, there are still some that are falling behind, and require deliberate action:

  • Nearly all retailers now have a coordinated EDI strategy and EDI sits as a top 10 priority for the majority of HTL companies
  • Positively, over 50% of businesses are able to identify an LGBTQ+ leader
  • Although HTL and retail leadership teams are continuing to diversify on gender, ethnic minority representation has stalled
  • More broadly, many businesses are finding the collection of data is both a catalyst for progress and a challenge
  • Many organisations are considering the language they use to discuss EDI, moving away from traditional vernacular such as diversity and instead leaning more towards inclusion
  • Neurodiversity and social mobility are rising priorities for businesses that are further along in their journey
