Chair of Trustees, Target Ovarian Cancer

Target Ovarian Cancer is the UK’s leading ovarian cancer charity, established to address one of the most serious and under recognised cancers affecting women. Since its foundation, the organisation has played a critical role in improving outcomes and transforming the experience of women affected by ovarian cancer, bringing together patients, clinicians, researchers, policymakers and partners to drive change across the system. Today, it is a respected national voice within the ovarian cancer landscape, known for its evidence-led approach, credibility with stakeholders and commitment to addressing the areas of greatest unmet need.

Despite advancements in cancer treatment, ovarian cancer continues to present profound challenges. Too many women are diagnosed late, face unequal outcomes, or lack access to the information, treatment and support they need. At the same time, there is increasing momentum across the UK health system, with renewed focus on the Women’s Health Strategy and the National Cancer Plan, creating a significant opportunity to influence change at scale. Against this backdrop, Target Ovarian Cancer recognises the need not only to sustain its impact to date, but to accelerate progress in earlier diagnosis, tackle entrenched inequalities and strengthen its voice and influence nationally.

The organisation has therefore entered an important new phase, underpinned by a clear and ambitious strategy focused on delivering credible, measurable impact over the next five years. This strategy prioritises earlier and faster diagnosis, improved treatment pathways, stronger and more equitable access to support, and greater awareness of ovarian cancer, while also placing a strong emphasis on long-term financial sustainability and organisational resilience. Alongside its external mission, Target Ovarian Cancer is committed to building a modern, inclusive and high-performing organisation with the culture, systems and governance required to deliver lasting change.

In this context, Target Ovarian Cancer is seeking to appoint a Chair of Trustees at a pivotal moment in its development. This is not a ceremonial role. The Chair will play a central leadership role in guiding the organisation through the delivery phase of its strategy, working in close partnership with the Chief Executive, Board and executive team to ensure that ambition is matched with focus, disciplined decision-making and strong governance. The role carries responsibility for providing strategic clarity, sound judgement and constructive challenge, helping the organisation to navigate a complex and opportunity-rich environment while maintaining steadfast focus on impact and sustainability.

As leader of the Board, the Chair will ensure the highest standards of governance, accountability and Board effectiveness, while fostering a culture of trust, openness and challenge. Externally, the Chair will act as an ambassador for the charity, representing Target Ovarian Cancer with senior donors, partners and stakeholders across government, the NHS, academia, research and the funding community. Through their credibility, presence and relationships, the Chair will help build confidence, open doors and strengthen the partnerships that underpin both the organisation’s impact and its long-term financial resilience.

Target Ovarian Cancer is seeking a senior and highly credible leader with a strong understanding of governance and strategic oversight, and with experience of supporting organisations through growth, change or transformation. Above all, the successful candidate will bring perspective, emotional intelligence and a deep alignment with the mission of ensuring that ovarian cancer does not limit life. This is a compelling opportunity to lead a committed and thoughtful Board, and to support an organisation that is clear on its direction, ambitious for its future and determined to make an even greater difference for women affected by ovarian cancer in the years ahead.
