The Royal Free London, Chief Executive Officer

The Royal Free London – World class expertise, local friendly care

A historic teaching hospital which has served communities in North London and its surrounds since its foundation in 1828, the Royal Free London combines world class medical expertise with local and friendly care, as it strives to tackle health inequalities in this vibrant part of the capital.

Operating across three hospital sites, the Royal Free Group is one of the largest NHS Trusts in the country, treating approximately 1.6m patients every year. With a strong reputation for innovation, high performance and partnership-building, the Trust closely collaborates with partners across the local provider landscape, as well as performing a significant role within UCL Partners, the UCL Health Alliance, and in the North Central London ICS.

Royal Free London’s mission is to be world class in innovative healthcare services, ground-breaking clinical research, and future-focused teaching, ultimately combining world-leading expertise with local care. We are now looking for a talented executive leader to be responsible for the development of the Royal Free’s strategy, its people, its partnerships, its services and ways of working, and for the delivery of its services at the Royal Free Hospital site in Hampstead.

Reporting to the Group CEO, the Royal Free Hospital CEO is a crucial leader who will create impact at both Group Board level and in the leadership of the Royal Free site. The successful candidate will lead an experienced site executive team in delivering acute and specialist services that attract patients from across the UK, prioritising excellence, efficiency, value and patient centred care. Our new Site CEO will work closely with community stakeholders, acting as Place based lead to maximise our partnerships and support our work.

As an active board member, the successful candidate will contribute at Group level to the strategic direction of the Trust and ensure the Royal Free Hospital contributes to and advances the ambitions of the Board. You will have significant senior management experience in acute provider settings with a track record of achievement in transformational leadership and operational performance improvement.  We are particularly interested in leaders from clinical backgrounds and leaders with strong track records leading positive change in acute environments.
